You are welcome to call us at any time to get an update over the phone. If your pet is in the ICU, we ask that you not call while doctors and technicians are doing rounds between 8 am and 9 am. If your pet’s condition changes drastically, we will contact you immediately. At times, you may be asked to call back or wait for a callback from the doctor or technician. This is because they are providing care to patients and are unable to be interrupted at that time. In order to provide the best care possible for all pets, we request that only one family member call for updates.
You are welcome to visit. We ask that you arrange a time with us, and visits should be limited to thirty minutes, with two visitors at a time. This will allow your pet to get the rest and care that he/she requires. Please be aware that there may be times you will have to wait to be brought in to visit your pet regardless of previous arrangements. This is usually due to an unforeseen emergency, and our staff will attend to your visit as soon as possible.
We recommend that referral practice patients be picked up during regular business hours, weekdays 7 am - 6 pm. If you pick up your pet during hours other than those listed, we cannot assure you of having contact with the doctor or technician familiar with your pet's case history. Emergency patients can be picked up at any time; however, we do ask that you notify us of your arrival time so that we can assure your pet will be ready.
The doctors at our hospital do not offer routine care such as vaccinations and other preventative care. We work closely with your veterinarian to ensure the most comprehensive care for your pet.
Use your best judgment as you know your pet better than anyone else. Never hesitate to call us if your pet is exhibiting any kind of concerning behavior. Once you explain what is happening, we will be able to advise you as to whether or not you need to bring your pet in. If your pet is in distress of any kind, definitely come right in; you do not need to call ahead.
Our emergency room operates exactly as a human emergency room operates. All patients are seen according to how critical they are. We know your time is important, and we do everything we can to get you taken care of in a timely manner.
Feel free to call VRHOH anytime, day or night. We are happy to help you in any way that we can; however, medical advice can rarely be given over the phone. Often a recommendation is given to bring your pet to VRHOH immediately if it is an obvious emergency. If the symptoms are more subtle, you may consider bringing your pet to VRHOH to be evaluated. We would never want to misguide you, so until your pet is examined by a veterinarian, it is best to play it safe.
If your pet ingested a KNOWN amount of medication, we may be able to advise you of any appropriate action or refer you to the ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center (www.aspca.org), a non-profit poison center specifically for pets. The phone number is 1-888-426-4435, and a $65 consultation fee may apply to your credit card.
After your pet’s initial exam, you will be presented with an estimated cost for treatment. When the treatment plan has been agreed upon, we require a deposit of 100% of the low end of the estimate prior to our beginning diagnostics and treatments. The remaining balance will be due at the time of discharge.
Our emergency exam fee is $94.00. This is to be paid prior to seeing the Veterinarian. Any medications and treatments are additional to that. You will be presented with an estimated cost for treatment. When the treatment plan has been agreed upon, we require a deposit of 100% of the low end of the estimate prior to our beginning diagnostics and treatments. At the time of discharge, the remaining balance will be due.
We accept Care Credit as a form of payment plan. Care Credit is a Medical Loan that works similar to a credit card - this can be used for veterinary care or human dental care. We offer a 6 month NO interest plan. We also offer extended month plans of 24, 36, 48, or 60 months which include interest. Our receptionists will be happy to assist you with applying for and choosing the right plan for your needs. It does not take long to apply, and a credit limit will be given immediately. Our Referral Consultation fee is $110.00. This is for our Surgery, Internal Medicine, and Critical Care Departments. Any medications and treatments are additional to that. You will be presented with an estimated cost for treatment.
